Best Schools in North Ogden, Utah for Families: A Parent's Guide
Best Schools in North Ogden, Utah for Families: A Parent's Guide
by Jaimee Jacobson
North Ogden is one of Weber County's most established family communities, with more public schools serving it than almost any other city in the area. Between four elementary schools, two possible junior highs, and a well-known high school just down the road in Pleasant View, parents moving here have real questions worth answering up front.
In this guide, I'll walk you through the public schools serving North Ogden, along with the questions I hear most often from families weighing a move here.
| School Name | Grades | Address |
|---|---|---|
| North Ogden Elementary School | K–6 | 530 E 2650 N, North Ogden, UT 84414 |
| Bates Elementary School | K–6 | 850 E 3100 N, Ogden, UT 84414 |
| Green Acres Elementary School | K–6 | 640 E 1900 N, Ogden, UT 84414 |
| Majestic Elementary School | PK, K–6 | 425 W 2550 N, Ogden, UT 84414 |
| North Ogden Junior High School | 7–9 | 575 E 2900 N, Ogden, UT 84414 |
| Orion Junior High School | 7–9 | Harrisville, UT |
| Weber High School | 10–12 | 430 W Weber High Drive, Pleasant View, UT 84414 |
1. How the School System Is Organized
North Ogden's neighborhood schools are part of Weber School District, which covers Weber County outside Ogden City. With four elementary schools serving different parts of the city — North Ogden Elementary, Bates, Green Acres, and Majestic — most families are a short drive or walk from their assigned school.
Junior high is where North Ogden is genuinely split: depending on the specific address, students attend either North Ogden Junior High, right in the city, or Orion Junior High in neighboring Harrisville. From there, all North Ogden students continue on to Weber High School, located just next door in Pleasant View, along with students from Harrisville, Huntsville, Eden, and Liberty.
Because both the elementary and junior high assignment can vary block by block, I always recommend confirming the exact school assignment for a specific address before writing an offer — Weber District maintains current boundary maps for exactly this reason.
When we work together on a home purchase in North Ogden, I pull the current school assignment for any property we're considering so you know exactly where your kids will go before you close.
2. Public Schools Serving North Ogden
North Ogden is home to four elementary schools — North Ogden Elementary, Bates, Green Acres, and Majestic — giving families more options than in many neighboring cities. From there, students continue to either North Ogden Junior High or Orion Junior High, and on to Weber High School.
What parents usually ask me:
"Why does North Ogden have two different junior highs?" The city's size and layout mean Weber District splits junior high assignments by boundary — some neighborhoods feed into North Ogden Junior High, others into Orion Junior High in Harrisville. It comes down to the specific address, not which elementary a student attended.
"Which elementary school will my kids attend?" It depends on where in the city you're looking — North Ogden has four options, so I always check the current boundary map for a specific property rather than assuming based on a nearby home.
"What's the commute and bus situation like?" Most North Ogden addresses fall within Weber District's bus service area for their assigned schools. Given the city's mix of flat grid streets and steeper bench neighborhoods, it's worth talking through how morning drop-off and pickup will fit your family's routine.
"Can we choose a different school than the one we're zoned for?" Utah's open enrollment law allows families to apply to schools outside their boundary, space permitting — a real option if a particular program or school is the right fit for your child.
3. What Makes North Ogden Schools Attractive to Families
A few reasons families specifically target North Ogden when house hunting:
- More elementary options than most cities this size. Four elementary schools means most families are close to their assigned school, wherever they land in the city.
- A high school right next door. Weber High School sits just over the line in Pleasant View, keeping the commute short for North Ogden families.
- A real sense of place. From Cherry Days each July to the Coldwater Canyon flag each fall, North Ogden's traditions carry into school life and community events year-round.
- Room to choose your setting. Families can choose the established, walkable grid near schools and parks, or the quieter, view-driven bench neighborhoods — either way, the same schools are within reach.
4. Questions to Ask When You're House Shopping
If you're considering a move to North Ogden, these are worth asking (and I can help you answer them):
- Which elementary and junior high is this specific address zoned for?
- Is open enrollment realistic for our family given current waitlists?
- How does this neighborhood's school compare to others in the area on class size and programs?
- What does the morning routine look like — bus, carpool, walk, or bike?
- How does this home's price point compare to others feeding into the same schools?
When I'm helping clients buy in North Ogden, school fit is part of the bigger picture — right alongside commute, budget, and whether the grid or the bench fits the life you want to build.
